Very interesting! I wonder if this is the reason that some online sellers will state on their ad that their price is so low they aren't allowed to advertise it online -- you have to click over to their website to see what it really sells for. Are they trying to get around a minimum price policy by the manufacturer? Or is it, as I originally supposed, just a ploy to get you on their website where you might buy not only this product, but other things they have for sale?

Yes, that tactic can sometimes be the result of what kinds of discounting a MAP policy allows.

Another thing which is done due to MAP is when the retail site says it can't show you the price of the discounted product until you add it to your cart -- which not only makes the price less visible but also keeps most bots from being able to detect the price and thus prevents other retailers from matching it.
